Un pianista tiene que sufrir a lo largo de su vida un millón de estafas y/o tomaduras de pelo.
Las más recientes, por ejemplo, cuando fui a HINVES pianos porque escribí a Steinway & Sons en Europa y me enviaron a ellos como representantes oficiales de esta marca de piano.
Llego allí y me recibe un tal Eduardo Frías, que también es pianista pero no le debe dar dinero que tiene que dedicarse a vender pianos allí. Entonces le digo que mi intención era grabar un CD de Chopin. Así me citó y me enseñó el nuevo local en Madrid de HINVES. Una tienda nueva y de apariencia lujosa.
Después de contarme que Odradek-Records me grabaría el CD y me daría 2000 copias, yo me ilusioné bastante. Así me dio ya una fecha de grabación para realizarse en su nuevo habitáculo “PianoLab”. La fecha la escogimos para unos dos meses. Yo estuve preparándome entonces y al cabo de unos 15 días me escriben para decirme que el presupuesto es de unos 1800 euros. Con un técnico de grabación externo.
Claro, eso ya cambiaba las cosas. El recinto ese de PianoLab es muy reducido y con una reverberación tremenda. Además ni siquiera se había probado para hacer nada allí todavía.
Y por ese dinero en cualquier estudio profesional, grabas. Lo más curioso que el grueso del presupuesto era por la utilización del piano, que estaba allí mismo… Les volví a preguntar y me dijeron todos sus directivos, que eran las normas de Steinway.
Ahora me da por mirar en su página y veo que tocan allí chavalines y gratis, han debido cambiar las normas en poco tiempo:
Después de eso, no dejo caer mi asombro, cuando me dirijo a Odradek-Records y su director, Enrique Valverde, y las condiciones eran además muy diferentes a las que Eduardo Frías me contaba. Te darían 400 CDs (formato que hoy día no se vende casi) pero tendría que pagar a cambio 4.000 euros…
Les digo, y ¿cómo es eso? Si yo puedo publicarme 1.000 por 700 euros y con código de barras, en caja jewel y con libreto a color de 12 páginas? Y me contestan que entonces es que debo de ser un artista para SONY…
SONY, jaja, pero se creen que he nacido ayer… Sony no hace ni caso.
Grabé finalmente en Galaxy Studios, Bélgica, no sin antes haber preguntado en un montón de Estudios de grabación y a contactos especialistas en producción de música clásica de nivel de la Deutsche Grammophone. Galaxy Studios es, como lo voy a explicar, un trillón de veces mejor que grabar en PianoLab de HINVES.
Y después de estudiar lo de las distribuidoras de música, y cómo explotan a los artistas y se quedan con casi todo (por la experiencia que tengo con algunas y por lo que leí), decidí exponer mis grabaciones en mi propia página web y el resultado está aquí:
Pero en fin, como digo, esto solo es una pequeña muestra. De las miles de veces que me han tomado el pelo en muchos sitios, aunque siempre he salido victorioso por otro lado.

I asked them again and they told me all their managers, which were the rules of Steinway.

After that, I do not let my astonishment fall, when I turn to Odradek-Records and its director, Enrique Valverde, and the conditions were also very different from those that Eduardo Frías told me. I finally recorded at Galaxy Studios, Belgium, but not before asking a lot of recording studios and contacts specialized in classical music production at the Deutsche Grammophone level. Galaxy Studios is, as I will explain, a trillion times better than recording in PianoLab of HINVES.
